Fighting the Adware Problem

Whether you know it or not, your computer takes a lot of abuse. And I'm not just talk about when you slam your fists into the keyboard when something doesn't go your way, I'm talking about what goes inside your computer.

Nearly everywhere you go online you are at risk. This isn't about website you shouldn't go on but do anyway, or music downloads from those illegal online sources, but instead the "trusted" websites you go on everyday. Unfortunately, almost every computer is at some sort of risk from a dangerous adware download. And no matter how careful you are, chances are your computer is infected right now.

Think of an adware download as an uninvited guest in your computer. While looking at a website on the internet, the adware, which is attached to the website, downloads itself onto your processor. The adware then looks at your browsing history and constantly spies on your internet browsing activites. This is why adware is sometimes called spyware, and vice-versa.

"So what," you might ask, "does adware do to my computer while it is spying on me?"

Well, it varies depending on what type of adware you've downloaded, but it could range from simple annoyances such as constant pop-ups and a slower loading time, to major, criminal issues such as the stealing of your credit card and social security card numbers! The problem is, with many of your favorite sites using adware and spyware downloads, if not taken care of your computer will continue to rack up problems.

Now that you're thoroughly scared, there are ways to fight this. One way is to fight adware downloads is to install an anti-spyware or adware program onto your computer. The good news is that some companies offer the services for free, though it would not be a bad investment to buy a subscription service which will add virus protection for a few dollars a month.

It's important to do at least a scan of your computer every few months so that you can see what can be removed immediately and what requires more "costly" action.

The truth is one of the worst things you can do with an adware download or spyware issue is ignore it. Your better off using one of the programs to scan and make sure that nothing serious is on your computer. It's free and you'll be thankful you did it.
